In April 2016 the legendary AIGA Into the Woods conference returns with three days of keynote presentations, hands-on workshops, and backwoods creative bonding at Sleeping Lady Mountain Resort in Leavenworth, Washington.

I’m excited to be returning as an instructor for the fourth time, joining a talented list of speakers and instructors that includes Louise Fili, James White, Ted Leonhardt and Laura Worthington. This has always been a great event at which to make new friends and reunite with old, and I’m thankful to the Seattle AIGA chapter for inviting me back.ITW2010_letterpressCleanup

For my letterpress workshop I’m packing up the best of the letterpress studio at Seattle’s School of Visual Concepts and bringing it into the heart of the American Alps.

In addition to sharing an assortment of wood type, I will introduce you to the lesser-known ways to play with letterpress printing, so that even experienced printers will learn something new. You’ll learn some basic rules, and then experiment with how to (safely) break them through creating your own prints.

Amy Redmond is a visual designer who enjoys teaming up with innovative clients that have a need for well-organized, dynamic creative. While her feet are firmly planted in digital design, Amy keeps her creativity fueled by dedicating every Friday to getting her hands inky at Amada Press, her private letterpress studio in Seattle. She’s happiest when existing in that sweet spot where the analog and digital design worlds overlap.

Amy’s early work as a book designer created a thirst for the finer points of typography, which led to a multi-year apprenticeship with Stern & Faye, Printers, publishers of fine press publications. With 18 years experience on press, Amy’s done everything from printing on velvet to printing with a steamroller, but her passion remains working with handset metal and wood type — reveling in the challenges their physical limitations bring. Over the past year, she’s begun to explore alternative forms of letterpress, including pressure printing with found objects.

She’s been teaching at the School of Visual Concepts since 2002, and is a frequent contributor to SVC’s letterpress shenanigans on Instagram: #SVCletterpress
